Cybersafety

16/09/2015

We have had several instances of cyber safety and inappropriate on line behaviour come to light over the past weeks. Although this is mainly coming from students in the senior years – it is a timely reminder that as parents – our role is to guide our children in the use of this technology when at home.

The most issues we have as a school generally come from Facebook – although no student at Labrador is legally old enough to have a Facebook account. Any app, any website as well as any game that allows students to converse with each other through the computer or device is one that needs to be carefully monitored to ensure students are using appropriate language, content and intentions.

Students should NEVER be allowed to have personal technology devices in their rooms at night while they are sleeping and usage of these devices and computers needs to be monitored by responsible adults in every household. We will continue to work with ALL students on the moral and ethical use of technology at school and at home but this lesson must be reinforced continually by all parents to ensure the message is being heard and acted on.
