LOTE in 2016

In 2016 our main feeder school Southport State High School will be dropping Italian as the second language taught and replacing Italian with the Chinese language called Mandarin. This exposes limited options for students at our school to continue the Italian language. 85% of our year 6 students going into year seven will enrol at Southport State High School.
My thinking is that we need to offer a language that students can learn in primary school and then have the option of continuing this learning in year 7-12 when they enter high school.
I am asking for your feedback by emailing your thoughts to or texting your thoughts to 0477702953. Whether we remain with Italian or change to Mandarin will be influenced by the feedback I receive.
This collaboration and consultation phase will be for the rest of this term. I will be gathering feedback and talking to the P & C, business partners, staff and students. I look forward to reading your feedback.
