Bring Your Own Device Program

During 2012 - Labrador State School trialled a BYO iPad into classrooms for interested students and parents. This program was refined and promoted to students in the following years and now in 2017 we have LAByox.

LAByox is a Bring Your Own Device strategy across the school - where the BYOx stands for:
B-ring
Y-our
O-wn
x- (where 'x' stands for any device)

The slide show we are presenting to the community to keep them informed of the changes to the school structure is included below.

Safe use of Technologies at Labrador State School:
Labrador State School is a primary school leader in the use of technology. In 2017 the Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) will be expanding.

A priority is to ensure the safe use of technology. The links below will help parents and carers get a deeper understanding of the safety aspects we follow at Labrador. Please talk to your son or daughter about applying these strategies.

Please understand that all WiFi infrastructure at Labrador State School meets with Australian Standards.

The Safe use of Technology fact sheet looks at standards as well as health and safety issues.

The Media Release answers some common questions asked of the Department of Education, Training and Employment.

Labrador State School BYOx Program Charter:
By following the link to the BYOx Program Charter you will read the responsibilities of students, of parents and of staff when BYO devices are brought into school as part of everyday learning. Together we are utilising 21st Century technologies to enhance learning outcomes.

The last page of this charter is the 'Student Participation Agreement' and this must be read, understood and signed by both parents and the student before a BYO device is brought into the school. You can find this by either downloading the complete BYOx Program Charter or the direct page at 'Student Participation Agreement'.

Cybersafety:

We emphasise with all students the importance of being cybersafe when using personal technologies. We explicitly teach this in classrooms and often discuss issues on year level parades. We also involve ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) in school presentations to students, staff and parents on a regular basis.

Our aim to provide our students with not only the technology but also the ability to make morally correct choices while being safe and respectful to themselves and others at all times when engaging with ICT.

Some very useful sites for families to investigate Cybersafety further are:

3D Printing:

Labrador State School has been involved in 3D printing since 2014.

Our journey began with using the Makers Empire app and we a 'Lighthouse School' for this company due to us being one of the first education facilities to come on board with them in Queensland.

We currently have our original Mini Up printer together with the new Flashforge 3D printer for students and staff to use. We have also been announced as one of only a handful of primary school to trial this new printer and apps for Education Queensland.
