Engaging in team sports is an important part of school culture, and gives students the opportunity to develop their talents, confidence and interpersonal skills.
Students at Labrador State School have access to a variety of sporting opportunities. The aim of the Physical Education team at Labrador is to create a fun, happy learning environment where students find a lifelong love of physical movement, build up physical capacity, and strive to improve. Physical education forms an important unit in the school curriculum, and we are fortunate to have excellent resources to support student’s development.
Our facilities
Our grounds include two full-sized sports ovals, an on-site swimming pool, and multi-purpose hall.
Our tree lined ovals provide a great environment for running, kicking and developing game skills. It allows us to host our cross country and annual athletic carnivals locally.
The 25-metre swimming pool is utilized in Terms 1 and 4. Qualified instruction helps students to develop water confidence and awareness, stroke development and correction.
The school hall is also a fantastic resource. It offers great protection from the sun, whilst being able to offer a fantastic space to develop ball and games skills.
Our events
Students have the opportunity to engage in sport during lessons, interschool sport, development officers (touch, oztag, rugby league, badminton) and district events, such as swimming, cross country and athletics.
We host school-wide participation in annual swimming, athletics and cross-country carnivals. These events are integral for developing strong school spirit and keeping students active.
Students who show great aptitude during these school events may be selected to represent the school at district and regional events.
Interschool sport
Labrador has a proud history of participation and achievement in interschool sport for Years 5 and 6. We have traditionally participated in sports such as soccer, touch, basketball and netball.
Opportunities exist for students who excel in a particular sport to represent our district, region and state, through district trials. Students who wish to participate would need to be operating at a representative standard on the weekends with their respective sports. Sports such as rugby league, soccer, touch, netball, hockey, rugby union, AFL, tennis, and cricket are offered.
