At Labrador State School we plan, teach, assess and report to parents on the Australian Curriculum. The image above shows our school's Provision of Whole School Curriculum document, which maps out what learning areas are taught, assessed and reported on, satisfying the requirements of the Australian Curriculum, and how the timing of these consider vertical alignment of curriculum throughout a child's journey through our school. The Australian Curriculum learning areas are:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- Health and Physical Education
- The Arts – Music, Dance, Drama, Media Arts and Visual Arts
- Technologies – Design Technologies and Digital Technologies
- Languages - Chinese
We utilise Curriculum into the Classroom (C2C) as a framework for delivery of the Australian Curriculum, adapting this resource to fit the unique needs of our school and its students, to ensure all areas of the curriculum are taught and all elements of the achievement standard are assessed. Assessment of students is moderated before, during and after the cycle of teaching and learning to ensure consistency of judgements by teachers against the relevant achievement standard.
Teaching and learning is planned to align to the Australian Curriculum Version 8.4, using the C2C units as a base. Teachers incorporate learning experiences that are engaging, so as to maximise student learning. Collaborative planning occurs to ensure consistency of practice for children at Labrador State School. Teachers set high expectations for student achievement, while differentiating instruction to the specific learning needs of students. Some of the signature practices used to support learning at this school include:
- LEM Phonics
- Complex Texts and Text Dependent Questioning
- Berry Street Trauma Informed Practice
We utilise the following diagnostic data collection systems to analyse and plan to the specific learning needs of our students:
- LEM Screener
- NCR Maths Diagnostics
- The Literacy Continuum
- Fountas and Pinnell Assessment Benchmark System
From 2024, Queensland schools will implement the revised Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 in a staged approach, with full implementation completed during 2026.
