Clubs and societies

At Labrador State School we believe there are many components that go into making us a great school. One of these components is the availability for our children to join many smaller clubs and or societies within the school and this involvement assists in the 'overall' development of the children.

Body Brains Confidence (BBC):

Let's get Labrador kids fit, strong and healthy.Students (prep to year 6) wanting to improve their fitness and have fun at the same time can do so by coming to our BBC exercise morning. BBC stands for Body, Brains and Confidence. Students will participate in a 45 minute circuit training program, focusing solely on improving levels of fitness. All age groups are welcome and exercise starts at 7:45am sharp every Friday morning. Students will meet Ms Sharp and other staff at the hall/oval at 7:45am. If students start an exercise circuit, it is expected that they stay the full length of time and participate until the end of the circuit. Students participating in the BBC exercise program also receive a healthy, hearty breakfast from Brekky Club for only $1.00 (gold coin donation). We are fortunate to have our weekly milk donated by Norco. Any parents with a fitness background who would like to donate their time on a Friday morning by helping supervise fitness circuits or parents wishing to lend a hand to the Brekky Club team are welcome to attend.

Chess Club

Labrador State School has a successful Chess Club. Students meet and challenge each other twice a week during second lunch break.  Once a term there is also the opportunity to participate in Interschool Chess as a team. This is a fantastic game for developing strategic critical thinking skills.

Environmental Club/Ecowarriors

At Labrador State School we have a strong desire to assist in the sustainability of the local environment through a variety of strategies. The first is the recycling of food scraps for worm farms and compost bins. Each year level has its own bin from Prep to Year 6.

Students are encouraged to participate in our Kitchen Garden program. Our compost is used to enhance the soil for growing herbs and vegetables. The produce grown in used by our tuckshop and in class activities.

Batteries are recycled with each class having a battery bin and they in turn are taken to Battery World for recycling when full. We also recycle ink cartridges that in turn become park benches, rulers and biros. Bottles, cans and glass are separated from children's and staff lunches as well. One of our Year 6 classes manages the recycling of old mobile phones and all classes are encouraged to turn off their lights at morning tea and lunch in order to reduce their carbon footprint.

Excellence Program

Labrador State School has started an excellence program across Year 5 and 6. Every Friday afternoon students participate in either touch, basketball, soccer or netball excellence teams (students try out for these teams), or dance, drama, visual arts, photography, robotics, chess and many more. Students train or prepare for competitions and exhibitions. If you have a special talent then we would love for you to join us.
